MLB Opening Day Matchups to Watch and Predictions

Opening Day of the Major League Baseball season is one of the greatest days on the sports calendar, and the 2019 regular season is set to kick off on Thursday in the United States. The best part about opening day is that every team believes that they are a playoff team this season, and each fanbase is excited to see how their team looks. Aces will be on the mound all across the league, and there are some great pitching matchups on the schedule. Let’s take a look at some of the best opening day matchups and make a betting prediction for each game.

New York Mets at Washington Nationals:

The New York Mets and Washington Nationals both had disappointing 2018 seasons, but both teams should bounce back in a big way this season. This matchup is also intriguing due to the two starting pitchers that will take the mound. Jacob DeGrom, the reigning Cy Young Award winner will take the mound for the Mets, and he will be opposed by Max Scherzer, who has won his fair share of Cy Youngs as well. If you are a fan of pitching, then this should be the best game of the day. Most people think that the Nationals offense will be down without Bryce Harper, but they still have plenty of talent. The Mets are still banged up, and they don’t ever score much when DeGrom is on the mound. Bet the Washington Nationals over the New York Mets in a low-scoring affair.

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers:

The Milwaukee Brewers came out of nowhere a season ago to win the National League Central Division, and the St. Louis Cardinals hope to do the same this season. Both teams improved in the offseason, and these two teams should fight it out all season long. The Cardinals will be debuting their new first baseman, Paul Goldschmidt, who will instantly improve the offense. Milwaukee will once again feature one of the best bullpens in baseball with Josh Hader leading the way. Miles Mikolas (St. Louis) takes on Jhoulys Chacin (Milwaukee), and the edge goes to the Cardinals. Bet the St. Louis Cardinals over the Milwaukee Brewers on opening day.

Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies:

The Philadelphia fans will be jacked up for this game as Bryce Harper will be playing his first game in a Phillies uniform. Philadelphia had a ton of money to spend in the offseason, and they went out and got the most prized free-agent on the market. The Phillies were close to being a playoff team a season ago, and they hope that Harper will help them get over the hump. Atlanta was a playoff team a season ago, winning the National League East, and they have a ton of young talent. Ronald Acuna Jr. looks like a potential MVP candidate, and Ozzie Albies had a breakout year in 2018 as well. The pitching matchup in this game favors the Phillies with Aaron Nola getting the opening day start. The Braves will counter with Julio Teheran, but he isn’t up to the level of Nola. Look for Harper to do something special in this game, and the Phillies to get the win. Bet the Philadelphia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves in this one.

Houston Astros at Tampa Bay Rays:

Another terrific pitching matchup will take place in Tampa Bay when Blake Snell pitches for the home team against Justin Verlander for the Astros. The Rays surprised everyone a season ago, and just missed out on the playoffs in the tough American League East. Houston is just one season removed from winning the World Series, and their core remains intact. Both Verlander and Snell got new contracts this offseason, and they will want to deliver for their clubs. The Astros have a lineup that can pound out some runs, but Snell is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Look for the Rays to get just enough runs in support of their ace to come away with the win. Bet the Tampa Bay Rays over the Houston Astros in this game.

Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners:

The Seattle Mariners have jumped out to a 2-0 start this season by defeating the Oakland Athletics in two games in Japan. Seattle was a solid team a season ago, and they could be a playoff team this season. The Boston Red Sox are the reigning World Series Champions, and should be loaded once again. Perennial Cy Young candidate Chris Sale will make the start for the Red Sox, and he will be opposed by Marco Gonzales (1-0). Even though the Seattle Mariners already have a few games under their belts, the Boston Red Sox will be ready to go from game 1. Expect some offense in this game, especially from the deep Boston lineup. Bet the Boston Red Sox over the Seattle Mariners in the final game of opening day.

Updated Betting Odds to Win 2019 World Series

With the 2019 Major League Baseball season still a few weeks away, there is still plenty of time to make a futures bet on the 2019 World Series Champion. The teams with the best odds haven’t changed since the end of the 2018 season, but there are a few other teams creeping up with their free-agent signings. Let’s take a look at the updated betting odds and talk about each team listed below.

Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros +600: These three teams have clearly risen above the crowd in the Major Leagues, and they will likely slug it out again in the playoffs. Neither of these teams did a lot to improve in the offseason, but they didn’t really need to. The Red Sox are the reigning World Series Champions, and the Astros won it the year before. Don’t be surprised if the New York Yankees get past both teams this season and win the title. There aren’t many weaknesses in any of these three teams.

Los Angeles Dodgers +700: The Los Angeles Dodgers made some interesting moves in the offseason, and will likely be without their ace, Clayton Kershaw, for the beginning of the regular season. The Dodgers still have one of the best bullpens in baseball, but their offense is likely to take a step back this season. Still, the Dodgers have been the class of the National League in the last two years, and they will be tough to knock off again this season.

Philadelphia Phillies +850: Philadelphia saw their odds increase a great deal when they signed prize free agent Bryce Harper to a 13-year deal. Harper is comfortable in the National League East and has done plenty of damage in Philadelphia. The Phillies still have big question marks in their starting rotation, but they are hoping that Harper and Rhys Hoskins can slug their way to a World Series Championship.

Chicago Cubs +1100: The Chicago Cubs were relatively quiet in the offseason, but they are still one of the most talented teams in the National League. The young core for the Cubs has gotten a year older, but some of them need to take the next step in their game. The Cubs are betting on a talented, veteran group of starting pitchers, and their performance will likely determine the fate of the Cubs. Chicago is in arguably the toughest division in baseball, and they have a big target on their backs.

St. Louis Cardinals +1200: The St. Louis Cardinals made a huge splash when they acquired Paul Goldschmidt early on in the offseason. Goldschmidt is one of the most underrated players in baseball but has put together a terrific career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. There are still plenty of question marks surrounding the Cardinals pitching staff, but they have plenty of pieces that could make the Cardinals the team to beat in the National League Central.

Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves +1400: This is an extremely interesting group of teams, who all made the playoffs a season ago. The Milwaukee Brewers feel like the best team on this list, but playing in the NL Central is no easy task. The Braves and Indians should be able to control their respective divisions this season, but the playoffs are a completely different story. One of these three teams could easily win the World Series, but they are all going to have to take huge steps.

Washington Nationals +1800: The Washington Nationals might have lost Bryce Harper this offseason, but they are loaded with young talent in the outfield. Washington will still be a threat to win the National League East due to their tremendous starting rotation. Don’t sleep on the Nationals this year as they look to get some revenge on Philadelphia for stealing their superstar away.

Colorado Rockies +2000: Nolan Arenado has agreed to a long contract extension with the Rockies, meaning that Colorado will be a contender every year in the near future. Pitching is always a huge question mark with the Rockies, but they can score runs with the best of them. The National League West is always a wild division, and the Rockies will be a contender.

New York Mets +2200: The New York Mets have been trying to improve their offseason in recent seasons, but they have struggled to score runs. Noah Syndergaard and Jacob DeGrom are two of the best pitchers in baseball, but they can’t win games on their own. The Mets should be much improved this season, but they are still the fourth best team in the National League East.

Oakland Athletics +2700: Oakland was one of the surprise teams in the Major Leagues a season ago, and they should be a contender again. The Athletics are still well behind the Houston Astros in the AL West, but they are a legit Wild Card contender. Oakland can slug with the best of them, and they won’t be easy to beat this season.

Everyone Else +3500 or Higher: The rest of the Major League teams fall in this category, including the San Diego Padres, who signed Manny Machado in the offseason. There is certainly a chance for someone from this group of teams to win the World Series, but it would be a major surprise.

NFL Week 14 Betting Odds and Predictions

The 2018 NFL season is entering the final stretch, but there are still many playoff races yet to be decided. Let’s take a look at the five best NFL games to bet on this weekend, and make a prediction for each game.

Green Bay Packers -4.5 vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Packers made headlines this week after firing longtime head coach Mike McCarthy. Green Bay brings a 4-7-1 record into this game, and they have been very disappointing this season. Atlanta has been even worse this season, posting a 4-8 record through their first 12 games. This game is a battle of two of the biggest disappointments in the NFL, but there should be plenty of offense in this game. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan are two of the best in the business, and they will try to outduel each other. Expect the weather to be cold and snowy and that is Packers weather. Bet the Green Bay Packers -4.5 over the Atlanta Falcons.

Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 vs. Baltimore Ravens

The top team in the AFC will host a playoff hopeful in an important game in Kansas City. The 10-2 Chiefs will take on a Baltimore Ravens team that has won three straight games to get back into the playoff picture. Baltimore has looked like a different team since rookie Lamar Jackson has taken over the quarterback job. With Jackson in charge, the Ravens lead the league in rushing and time of possession. If the Ravens are able to keep the explosive Chiefs offense on the sideline for much of this game, they might be able to pull off their fourth straight win. Kansas City released running back Kareem Hunt before week 13, but still managed to score 40 points. As long as the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, they will still score a ton of points. Bet the Chiefs -6.5 over the Baltimore Ravens.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles +3.5

Perhaps the biggest game of the weekend will take place in Dallas when the Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles. The winner of this game will take over 1st place in the NFC East, and this is one of the best rivalries in football. The Cowboys have won four straight games to put themselves in a nice position, and they have been riding the legs of Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys running back has racked up 1,150 yards and six touchdowns this season. Dallas also features one of the top defenses in the NFL, giving up just 18.6 points per game. Philadelphia is averaging just 21.5 points per game this season, but they are starting to heat up at the right time. Newcomer Golden Tate had a big night in week 13, finishing with 7 catches for 85 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Eagles still have plenty of work to do to return to the playoffs this season, but they have the talent to get the job done. Look for Philadelphia to make a statement against the Cowboys in Dallas. Bet the Eagles +3.5 over the Cowboys in a huge NFC East clash.

Arizona Cardinals +2.5 vs. Detroit Lions

The Arizona Cardinals are fresh off of their third win of the season in a game that cost Mike McCarthy a job. The Cardinals have been a mess on offense all season long, averaging just 14.6 points per game. Against the Packers it was rookie running back Chase Edmunds who was the offensive star, scoring two touchdowns in his first career game at Lambeau Field. Arizona will take on another NFC North team, the Detroit Lions, in this game, and they could find the same success. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has thrown for over 3,000 yards again this season, but Detroit has been riddled with injuries this season. Playing at home should give the Cardinals an extra boost, and I think they get their second straight victory in this game. Bet the Arizona Cardinals +2.5 to beat the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Minnesota Vikings +3.5

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Minnesota Vikings with a lot at stake in the NFC Playoff race. Seattle continues to be one of the hardest places to win on the road in the NFL, but the Vikings feature one of the most talented rosters in the league. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has thrown for over 3,400 yards in his first season with the Vikings, and will need to have a big game against the Seahawks. Minnesota has struggled running the ball this season, but should find success through the air. For Seattle, quarterback Russell Wilson has been sharp again this season, but running back Chris Carson has started to emerge as a star. Carson has ran for 704 yards and four touchdowns this season, but he faces a hungry Vikings defense in this game. The Seahawks are a small favorite in this game, but the Vikings will come away with the win. Bet the Minnesota Vikings +3.5 over the Seahawks on Monday night.

NFL Week 12 Betting Odds and Predictions

Week 12 of the NFL season is set to kick off with three games on Thanksgiving Day. Many of the spreads in week 12 are rather large, but let’s take a look at five of the best games to bet on this weekend around the NFL.

Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears -3.0

The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears in their annual Thanksgiving Day game. This is a rematch of a game that was played two weeks ago in Chicago in which the Bears beat the Lions 34-22. The Chicago Bears offense was absolutely unstoppable in that contest, but the Bears could be without Mitchell Trubisky in this contest. Trubisky injured his throwing shoulder in the win over the Vikings, and his status is questionable. Fortunately for the Bears, they still have Khalil Mack and one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Lions have struggled to score all season long, and Chicago will keep Detroit to a low number. Bet the Chicago Bears -3.0 over the Lions in this game.

Cincinnati Bengals -3.0 vs. Cleveland Browns

The Cincinnati Bengals will host the Cleveland Browns in an AFC North battle on Sunday. The Bengals are only a three-point favorite in this game, which is a bit of a surprise. Cleveland has won just three games this season, but they did pick up an impressive win over the Falcons in week 11. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has shown glimpses of greatness this season but has also been wildly inconsistent. The Bengals have been horrible on defense for much of this season, but they should be able to get some pressure on Mayfield in this game. The status of wide receiver AJ Green will play a huge role in this game, but it is likely that he will suit up. This should be a competitive game, but the Bengals have too much offense for the Browns in this game. Look for the Bengals to win a wild affair in Cincy. Bet the Bengals -3.0 over the Browns on Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Arizona Cardinals +12.5

The Los Angeles Chargers are a whopping 12.5 point favorite over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Chargers were off to a 7-2 start to the season but suffered a last-second loss to the Denver Broncos last weekend. Quarterback Philip Rivers has thrown for nearly 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns this season but threw two costly interceptions in the loss to Denver. The Cardinals come into this game with a 2-8 record, but they have been competitive in recent weeks. Arizona lost by just 12 points to the explosive Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago, and they are still playing hard. The Los Angeles Chargers are the obvious pick to win this game, but the Cardinals won’t get blown out in LA. Take the points and bet the Arizona Cardinals +12.5 in this matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Denver Broncos vs. Pittsburgh Steelers -3.0

Another road favorite this week is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will be taking on the Denver Broncos. The Steelers have won six straight games to take control of the AFC North Division, while the Denver Broncos are clinging to playoff hope with a 4-6 record. The Broncos stunned the Chargers in week 11, and they have one of the top defenses in the NFL. Denver also averages over 124 rushing yards per game which should keep the explosive Steelers offense off of the field. The Steelers are still the pick in this game because quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is playing at an extremely high level. Big Ben has thrown for over 3,200 yards this season, and he should take advantage of a depleted Broncos secondary. Winning in Denver won’t be an easy task, but the Steelers will get the job done. Bet the Steelers -3.0 over the Broncos on Sunday.

Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans

One of the best games of the weekend will take place on Monday night when the Houston Texans play host to the Tennessee Titans. The Houston Texans have won seven straight games to take control of the AFC South Division, but a Titans victory could close the gap for the playoff spot. Houston has won their past two games by a combined four points, and this game should be extremely tight as well. The Texans feature one of the best pass rushing attacks in football, with J.J. Watt leading the way. The Titans will have to find a way to keep quarterback Marcus Mariota upright and healthy in this contest if they want a chance. Mariota has dealt with injuries all season long and has thrown just seven touchdown passes this season. The Titans can play defense, and that unit should keep them in this game right down to the wire. Houston has won seven straight games, and they will make it eight with a victory over Tennessee on Monday night. Bet the Houston Texans over the Tennessee Titans.
