While the Big Ten Conference Tournament is already underway, the other big dog conferences will get started soon, with some great action on the hardwood. We thought we would take a look at the conference tournaments, and give a look at some of the favorites and our pick to win the conference tournament:
BET ON NCAA BASKETBALL AT PADDY POWER
Atlantic Coast Conference
The headline names are of course the Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels. But, one of the, if not THE best team in all of College Basketball this season has been the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavaliers won the regular season title, and will be a top seed in the big dance. The Clemson Tigers are also in the mix. The conference is likely to get 8 teams into the tournament, with an outside chance at 9. When push comes to shove though – it is tough to bet against the most talent. The most talent in the Atlantic Coast Conference is the Duke Blue Devils. Take Coach K and his Blue Devils to win the ACC tournament.
Big East
The Big East does not have a ton of high profiled tournament teams, but they have two of the best teams in the nation. The Xavier Musketeers are the winners of the regular season title with their 14-3 conference record. The Villanova Wildcats are second in the league. It appears Creighton, Seton Hall and Butler will make the big dance with teams like Providence and Marquette on the outside looking in. Much like the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament – it’s hard to bet against talent. Villanova has beat Xavier twice this season, and if they play a game – three times will be done. Take the Villanova Wildcats to win the Big East tournament.
Big 12
For the 14th straight season – the Kansas Jayhawks won the regular season title. The Jayhawks are 24-6 on the season, and look to be in a good spot to grab a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Big 12 this season is absolutely loaded though. Many call it the best conference in the nation from top to bottom. West Virginia and Texas Tech appear to be very safe, while the crowd of TCU, Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas are a bubble team. With a tournament run in the Big 12 – they could get in the big dance. Iowa State is the only team out of the race. Not sure how motivated the Kansas Jayhawks will be for this tournament – so going with the next best. Take West Virginia to win the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City,
Pac-12
The Pac-12 Tournament could be wild. It’s a pretty balanced league as well, with just one team ranked in the Top 25. The Arizona Wildcats are that team, but nothing seems to be a sure thing with the Wildcats right now. Arizona is 22-7 on the season, but the drama around the program is real. Other team that appears to be in decent shape to make a run – USC, Stanford, UCLA, Utah, Oregon and Washington. It’s really anyone’s guess as to who gets in to the big dance out of this league. Even Arizona State at 19-9 are a bubble team, with a 7-9 league record. Arizona is the most talented, if they can get past the drama – they will win this tournament. Take the Arizona Wildcats to win the Pac-12 tournament.
SEC
The Auburn Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers finished at the top of the regular season standings, but people are wondering at how hot the Kentucky Wildcats are now. Do not forget teams like the Arkansas Razorbacks, and even the Florida Gators, who have won back to back games. Missouri is another team that has a ton of talent. This is anyone’s tournament with the exception of Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Those two teams are under .500, and appear to be on their way out for the season. When you bet on the SEC tournament – get the Kentucky Wildcats with underdog odds and take it to the house!
There is a look at five power conferences and their tournaments that are upcoming. A few of the other favorites include the Rhode Island Rams out of the Atlantic 10, Cincinnati and Wichita State are contenders at the top of the American Athletic Conference. Conference USA is Middle Tennessee State’s to lose, while Nevada appears to be the top team out of the Mountain West Conference. Enjoy the tournament action!
