2018 NCAA Tournament First Round Winners

The 2018 NCAA Tournament gets started Tuesday with a pair of Play-in games. Wednesday is the same, before the major action gets started on Thursday and Friday. Instead of going through an entire bracket, we would rather give you our picks for the first round winners, and then discuss second round following that. Let’s take a look at the 2018 NCAA Tournament First Round Winners:

South Region

In the South, the top seeded Virginia Cavaliers should have no issue with the 16 seed UMBC. Remember- a top seed has never lost in the history of the NCAA Tournament. We like the Cavaliers to get Creighton in the second round. The Blue Jays take on Kansas State. Creighton’s offense should be able to prove to be too much for Kansas State in that battle. In Boise – Kentucky and Davidson meet up, while Arizona and Buffalo follow. Those are two pretty good games, and we will take the favorite in both. The bottom of the bracket features Miami against Loyola and Tennessee battling Wright State. Look for the Ramblers to upset Miami, and Tennessee takes down Wright State. Finally, the bottom of the bracket features Texas against Nevada and Cincinnati battling Georgia State. The Longhorns take down Nevada, and Cincinnati moves on.

West Region

The West will feature sites in Nashville, Boise, Wichita and North Carolina State. The top seed Xavier Musketeers should keep the #1 seed streak alive, and take on Florida State in the second round. The Seminoles take down Missouri. The next quadrant features Ohio State against South Dakota State and Gonzaga against UNC Greensboro. Look for South Dakota State to win in an upset, and Gonzaga takes down UNC Greensboro. The bottom of the bracket – San Diego State upsets Houston and Montana takes down Michigan. Two upsets, and that features San Diego State and Montana for the right to go the Sweet 16. Finally, at the bottom – Providence beats Texas A+M and North Carolina downs Lipscomb.

East Region

The East Region features the Villanova Wildcats looking for their second title in three seasons. They get by the play-in winner and get the Alabama Crimson Tide in the second round. The Crimson Tide take down Virginia Tech. The next quadrant features West Virginia as a winner of the Racers of Murray State, and will then take on Gregg Marshall and his Wichita State Shockers, who down Marshall. The bottom of the East Region features UCLA upsetting Florida, and Texas Tech taking down Stephen F. Austin. Finally, at the bottom, Arkansas ends the Butler Bulldogs season, and Purdue smacks Cal State Fullerton around.

Midwest Region

The top seeded Kansas Jayhawks get an interesting matchup in the first round, as they battle Ivy League Penn. The Jayhawks hold off to win, and take on either Seton Hall or North Carolina State. Look for the experience of the Wolf Pack to come through and win this game. The next region in San Diego features Clemson against New Mexico State and Auburn against Charleston. We are going chalk here and will take the Tigers and the Tigers. At the bottom of the Midwest bracket, TCU is in trouble against Arizona State. Look for the Sun Devils to pull an upset there, while Michigan State holds off Bucknell. Finally – Oklahoma upsets Rhode Island, and then will face off against Duke in the second round.
